One of the biggest concerns for home owners is water entry because of the devastation and damage it can cause to structure, materials and personal contents. Proper water management at the exterior is critical and here are some of the items to be aware of throughout the year that will help control the water and keep it away from the building. Eavestroughs (gutters) - Clean, functioning gutters collect large amounts of water from the roof and channel it to the downspouts. Trees shed debris throughout the year which will collect in the gutters and cause reduced performance by restricting the proper flow of water. Gutters need to be cleaned on a regular basis to maintain good performance, direct the water to the downspouts and discharge it far away from the building. If you would like to learn more about water management systems on the exterior of your home, give us a call. We are available to answer your questions.

Are home inspectors in Ontario licensed...NO !! Anyone can be a home Inspector without any formal training whatsoever. So how does a person know who to choose? Simple... look for an inspector who has the RHI designation. In order to hold this RHI designation, an inspector must have completed numerous technical education requirements AND have performed a minimum of 200 inspections to become a 'Registered Home Inspector'. Licensing will soon be coming to Ontario which will not only benefit our industry but also every single home buyer and/or owner. Here is an article from the Ontario government; Home Inspection Act, 2017 Summary of Proposal:The Putting Consumers First Act (Consumer Protection Statute Law Amendment), 2017 received Royal Assent on April 13, 2017. It enacted a new statute called the Home Inspection Act, 2017 (HIA). The HIA, which comes into force on a date (or dates) set by proclamation of the Lieutenant Governor, is not yet in force as regulations must be developed to support the implementation of this legislation. Updates on licensing will be posted to our website so check in regularly to see new updates or new articles.
